Premium Samgyupsal Experience at Songdowon Korean Grill

Songdowon is a premium Korean grill located in Macapagal Blvd along the mini Korean town there. I’ve been passing on that street for numerous times already whenever I go to MOA but never had the chance to try it as it’s always just a place where literally people pass by, until this day that I’m finally lucky to try it.

It has a huge signage so it can be spotted easily. Glad they have a huge parking space too! One thing I love about Songdowon is that they have a waiting area outside and has a huge dining area inside. They also have an open kitchen so you can see their staffs cooking your food.

Additionally, they have a promo that when you buy their meat (uncooked) for takeout, the price would be half. (50% discount for all meat take-outs.) They have a freezer where you can choose your meat.

As mentioned above, Songdowon is a premium Korean grill, this only means that the price is higher than the usual Samgyupsal and unlimited grill that we tried before. What I love the most about this shop is that they give plenty of Korean side dishes and most of them are not available in the current Korean Samgyupsal and restaurants in Metro Manila!

The side dishes

(garlic, chili, steamed egg, tofu soup)

They give out different side dishes per table which I find weird at some point. Originally, our table had some vegetables, boiled egg with soy sauce, kimchi, odeng, miyeok, macaroni and some chili dynamite. They all taste good.
(miyeok, odeng, lettuce)

I’m happy that they give odeng as a side dish because it’s refillable. Also, Miyeok (seaweed) is quite an expensive side dish too so it makes me so happy to see it on our table!

(yellow radish, dynamites, kimchi)

(macaroni salad, chayote type of vegetable, braised tofu)

(braised egg and anchovies)

The meat

As we ordered some sort of a set meal, we were given a plate of Samgyupsal and some pork cube cuts. It was also served with ganjang, some salt and pepper and later, they asked if we’d like to have it with some sesame oil. Meats often come in platters and set meals. Seat meals starts at 1000 pesos and up depending on the quality of meat and the inclusions.

The ala carte

(Sundubujiggae, soup, pajeon)

We added sundubujjigae (tofu stew) and another soup which I can’t really distinguish because it’s close to sundubujjigae but has no spiciness at all. I am surprised to see that there’s Gopchang in their menu so I’m planning to comeback and try it. Gopchang is the intestines of pork (if I’m not mistaken) and they grill it and add some sauce. I know it’s quite expensive in Korea, so I wasn’t surprised to see that the price here is 1,200 per order. Nevertheless, it’s already good for sharing.

Ella’s Recommendation

1. If you are a heavy meat eater, then atleast be prepared to bring about 1-3k as their meats are premium so it’s quite pricey. Anyway, all their side dishes were premium too.

2. Location wise, it’s easy to find since it’s just in HK Plaza (Macapagal) but if you are commuting, the only way to go here is via the orange cab from Buendia going to MOA or ride buses from Manila and get off at Roxas Blvd then walk a few meters since the restaurant is located at the back.

  1. Worth it puntahan ba?

    1. taste wise, oo worth it -- maraming Korean food sila na hindi available sa ibang resto pero yung presyo, kung maliit ang budget, stick na lang sa normal na samgyup. Pagmay budget, sobrang bet!!!
